The number of scooter-users in India is increasing with each passing year. Automatic scooters are much more convenient and comfortable to ride than geared motorcycles. In 2018, there are many new exciting scooters scheduled to be launched in the Indian market. Here they are.
Aprilia SR125
Aprilia’s current most affordable product, the SR150 is quite popular in the market. The Italian brand will now launch a smaller version of the automatic scooter in the coming days. It will be known as SR125 and will be targeted at the buyers who are looking for a stylish scooter but are on a budget.
The SR125 is expected to be priced at around Rs. 65,309 making it around Rs. 4,000 cheaper than the SR150. It will be powered by the same 125cc engine that also powers the Vespa VX125. It produces a maximum of 10 Bhp and 10.6 Nm.
Yamaha Nozza Grande-based scooter
Yamaha will launch a new 125cc scooter in India soon. The scooter has already been spied testing and is expected to be unveiled at the 2018 Auto Expo. It will be based on the Nozza Grande 125cc automatic scooter and will get retro-styling. The scooter will get Indian specific alterations to make it more affordable.
Ather 340
Bengaluru-based start-up, Ather Energy will launch India’s first smart electric scooter. – the S340. The scooter will be launched in the first quarter of this year. The electric scooter will be built on an aluminium chassis will weigh around 90 kg. The electric motor powering the scooter will be able to take the scooter to a top speed of 72 km/h with 0-60 km/h time of 12.11 seconds. The scooter will be powered by advanced lithium-ion batteries that have a life of over 50,000 km.
TVS Dazz
TVS is testing the Dazz scooter in India that will take on the market-leader – Honda Activa. The scooter is already available in South-east Asian markets but the India-spec scooter may lose a few features to keep the cost low. The Dazz will be powered by a 110cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that produces a maximum power of 8.57 Bhp and peak torque of 8.3 Nm. It gets a sharp design that will catch a lot of eyes on the road.
TVS Jupiter electric
With the government’s aim to make India and electric vehicle nation by 2030, manufacturers have started focussing on electric powered products. TVS now plans to electrify the popular scooter – Jupiter. Details like motor power and battery capacity are not available as of now but expect TVS to showcase the scooter at the Auto Expo. The production version of the scooter is expected to be launched by mid of this year.
TVS Graphite based scooter
TVS is also planning to launch a scooter to take on the performance models like Aprilia SR150, Honda Dio and the likes. The upcoming scooter has been spied in India and it will be based on the Graphite concept scooter that was showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo. The scooter is expected to get a top speed of more than 100 km/h. TVS may offer other advanced features like navigation, smartphone integration and comprehensive instrument cluster on the upcoming scooter
Honda Scoopy
The popularity of retro looking scooters is rising in India. With products like Yamaha Fascino and Vespa gaining a lot of attention in the market, the largest scooter seller in India – Honda is now planning to launch the Scoopy. The retro looking scooter has already been spied in India and as per reports, the company had patented the scooter for the Indian market. The Scoopy is expected to be powered by the same 109.2cc engine that powers the Activa 4G in India.
Twenty Two Motors Flow
Gurugram-based electric vehicle startup, Twenty Two Motors announced that they will launch their first product – Flow at the 2018 Auto Expo. The scooter looks quite interesting and is powered by a 2,100 watts electric motor that generates a maximum of 90 Nm. The scooter weighs only 85 kg and gets advanced features like reverse gear, cruise control, LCD display, Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS), programmable LED lights and more.
Vespa 300 GTS
Piaggio is planning to launch the Vespa 300 GTS in India soon. The retro-styled scooter will be targeted at the customers who love the retro styling but want a high performance. It is expected to be powered by a 278cc, single-cylinder engine that develops a maximum of 21 Bhp and 23 Nm. It will get analogue instrument cluster with LCD display. We may also see features like dual channel ABS, traction control and more on the scooter.
Hero Duet-E
Hero showcased the Duet E at the 2016 Auto Expo as a concept model and plans to launch it soon. It is an electric scooter that and looks similar to the petrol-powered Duet. The electric scooter is expected t to be powered by a 5 kW motor that will be able to do 0-60 km/h in 6.5 seconds. The scooter will be able to do 65 km on a single full charge.
